15 минут в городе. Майами

I finally was in Miami. Not just checked in at the airport, but spent an honest 15 minutes in the city. And although I’m one of those travelers who don’t like tours like “20 cities in 10 days,” my 15 minutes in Miami can most likely be attributed to trips of that kind.

To be honest, I can tell very little about Miami and that’s bad. And the good thing is that I can create a new section “A city in 15 minutes.” In this section I will share info about American cities in which I spent veeeery little time, but nevertheless managed to make certain conclusions and get impressions.

So, my 15 minutes in Miami.

Backstory

It’s very strange to go to a city for the sake of 15 minutes. With Miami everything should have worked out differently, but the road from Key West and visiting a relative of my travel companion took a little more time than they should have. In the end, instead of a day under Florida’s most hyped sun, I managed to snatch only a dozen and a half minutes.

Miami City and Miami Beach

I’m sure there are many neighborhoods in Miami whose names I don’t know. The conclusion I managed to make is that the city is conditionally divided into Miami City and Miami Beach, and already directly in these two parts there are many small neighborhoods.

If you want the beach, you go to Miami Beach. And if you want to walk along streets between high-rises, then to the City. By the way, the City is on the mainland, while the Beach is already on an island. And they are separated by a beautiful bridge

Why do people go to Miami?

In Miami it’s customary to go party. In my 15 minutes during the daytime I couldn’t understand all the charm of partying in the city, but judging by numerous videos about the city’s party life, I drew conclusions that:

Justin Bieber parties here
the parties really are cool, beautiful and large-scale. But how the parties in New York are worse I can’t understand. Unless, when in New York everything is covered with snow, in Miami the sun warms, and instead of a snowmobile ride, you can take a ride in a convertible.

Car

Since we’ve started talking about cars, I’ll say that you need to go to Florida only in a convertible. Any other car automatically erases half the impressions from the whole trip. Why? Because when there’s no roof the windows let you see even better everything you rush past, because here the air is clean and driving in an open car is good for your lungs. In the end, because a convertible, without unnecessary pathos and bragging — is cool!

Beach

The second reason why everyone goes to Miami is the beach. And I want to reassure everyone right away — there really is a beach in Miami! The sand is clean and beautiful, the ocean is clean and beautiful, there aren’t many people, but they’re all clean and beautiful. The beach stretches for several kilometers, which means there will be a place for everyone. I was in Miami in mid-July and despite the peak of the season the beach was half-empty, which can’t help but make you happy (freedom!)

Language

In the state of Florida there are a lot of Spanish-speaking people. Miami is in Florida — hence the conclusion. So if you know Spanish, Miami is a great city to practice your knowledge.

Transport

A free tram Metromover Loop runs in the city, which I didn’t ride. But I’ve heard a lot about it and I know people who did it. This tram runs exclusively around the City.

From other transport I’ll single out buses and the метро (yes, there is a метро here)

Housing

After digging around on the internet, I realized that the cost of housing in Miami is the same as in New York (here I mean exclusively rooms and apartments that can be found through airbnb, and not buying real estate)

Food

As always, a big and as always tasty slice of pizza cost $4. In New York there is also pizza for $4, and there’s also for $2 and for $1. But I think that the cost of pizza is not an indicator of how expensive or cheap food is at all, and my travel intuition tells me that food prices here are about the same as in New York.

P.S. For those who don’t know food prices in New York, here’s info: they are not expensive)

Is it worth going to Miami?

Of course it is, it’s Miami! Even if this city isn’t as impressive as many others, it’s still Miami. A city about which a huge number of songs have been written, a city of a vacation in which millions of people dream, a city in which it’s summer all year round and the ocean is warm. Can it be bad here?

Starting point

Miami is not just good on its own, it’s also a starting point for many trips! From here you can go to Orlando — the capital of the state of Florida. In Orlando there are two шикарных parks — DisneyWorld and Universal studio. And despite the fact that admission to each of them costs a little more than $100, they definitely, JUST DEFINITELY must be visited.

Another direction is to go further south and head to the Florida Keys — small islands that are connected by one of the longest bridges in America, and get to the southernmost point of the USA, Key West.

And the last option is to buy a tour on a cruise liner. Tours are different — for 3 days or 2 weeks, but I think they are united by one thing — the beauty of America, the appropriate service and a sea of impressions, where would we be without them)))
